county corporate

county corporate
A term applied to certain cities and towns in England, including London, York, Bristol, Norwich trod Coventry, and the territory annexed to them, to which out of special favor, the kings granted the privilege to be counties of themselves and not to be included in any other county, and to be governed by their own sheriffs and other officers, so that no officers of the county at large had any power to act therein. See 1 Bl Comm 120.
