A copyright obtainable under particular circumstances and enduring for a limited time. Where a book or periodical is first published abroad in the English language, the deposit of one complete copy of such foreign edition in the copyright office, not later than six months after its publication abroad, with a request for the reservation of the copyright and a statement of the name and nationality of the author and copyright proprietor and of the (late of publication, secures to the author or proprietor an ad interim copyright having all the force and effect given to copyright by the Federal Copyright Law, which will endure until the expiration of 5 years after the date of the first publication abroad. 17 USC § 22.
