constructive placement of cars
An assumed placement where a carrier is prevented from making an actual placement by reason of conditions for which the shipper or consignee is responsible, and it is necessary under the rules and regulations of the carrier to have a point of time from which the period of detention of the cars for the purpose of imposing demurrage charges can be calculated. 13 Am 12d Car § 485.
