Congressional Cemetery
A burial ground or premises of Christ Church in Washington, D. C., established by the Vestry in the early days of the country, frequently used for some years as a place for the burial of Senators, Representatives, and Executive Officers who died in the city and whose homes were at a distance, and recognized as having a semi-official status by an appropriation made by Congress in 1816 in order to make certain the reservation of part of the ground for the burial of officials of the government.
