actual induction

actual induction
The reception of a person into the Armed Forces of the United States which makes him a member thereof and responsible for the performance of the duties of a soldier, sailor, marine, etc. It does not take place, under the Army and Selective Service regulations, until the selectee has taken the oath of induction, and where he refuses to take it, it is not enough that he has been accepted after physical examination, or that the oath was read to him and that he was thereupon informed that he was in the Army, to subject him to a court-martial for disobeying an order. Billings v Truesdell, 321 US 542 88 L Ed 917, 64 S Ct 737.
