writ of proclamation

writ of proclamation
A writ directed to the sheriff of the county of the defendant's residence, commanding the sheriff to make three proclamations of the pendency of outlawry proceedings against the defendant. This was a statutory requirement, the purpose of which was to prevent secret outlawries. See 3 Bl Comm 283.
