Abandoned children. Homeless persons, especially persons unable to care for themselves. Goods stolen, and waived or abandoned by a thief in his flight, in fear of apprehension. Such goods became the property of the king, by way of punishing the owner for his failure to pursue the thief and retake his goods. See 1 Bl Comm 296.
