The highest degree of care to be exercised in a particular situation, consistent with the nature of the undertaking and the circumstances of the case. Dodge v Boston & Bangor S.S. Co. 148 Mass 207, 19 NE 373. As applied to the care required of passenger carriers, the term implies the highest degree of practicable care and diligence consistent with the mode of transportation adopted, and with the practical prosecution of the carrier's business. 14 Am J2d Car § 916.
