toll bridge
A bridge for the use of which a toll is collected. As a private instrumentality, abridge built and maintained under public authority as a portion of the highway with which it is connected, dedicated to public use, subject only to the right of the proprietors to exact reasonable toll for such use. Aside from the right of the company to collect tolls, a toll bridge does not differ from the ordinary highway constructed and maintained by the inhabitants of the district through which it passes.
