short
Not extensive in length, whether of distance or time. The condition of one who has sold short. Lacking funds, particularly funds which one should have according to a record or book of account. The word "short" may not always impute dishonesty or criminality, but it may be so used. Where a person is employed to sell merchandise and collect therefor and turn in his collections to his employer, to charge that he is "`short" is to impute dishonesty.
