religious sect
A body or number of persons, united in tenets, but constituting a distinct organization or party holding sentiments or doctrines different from those of other bodies. 45 Am J1st Reli Soc § 2. A body of persons distinguished by peculiarities of faith and practice from other bodies adhering to the same general system. Evans v Selma Union High School Dist. 193 Cal 54, 222 P 801, 31 ALR 1121. A religious denomination; the aggregate of those persons who adhere to, profess, or entertain the same religious creed, persuasion, or opinions. Hale v Everett, 53 NH 9. People believing in the same religious doctrines, who are more or less closely associated or organized to advance such doctrines and increase the number of believers therein. State ex rel. Weiss v District Board of School Dist. 76 Wis 177, 44 NW 967. A denomination of religious persons having a common system of faith, either written or traditional. See State v Trustees, 7 Ohio St 58, 64.
