acceleration of estate

acceleration of estate
The shortening of the time at which a future estate is to vest, as where the precedent estate fails to come into existence, or, having come into existence, terminates prematurely. 28 Am J2d Est § 304. The most familiar case of acceleration is that where a widow given a life estate renounces the will and elects to take her dower or statutory interest instead, whereby the remainderman takes immediately as if the widow had died. 28 Am J2d Est § 307.
