main channel
The channel through which the current courses to best advantage, usually the deeper and more navigable channel of a river of two or more channels at a particular point of the stream. The description of a boundary line as formed by the center of the "main channel" of a designated river is too indefinite, in many instances, to constitute a description which can be traced.
