Jencks Act

Jencks Act
A federal statute the major concern of which is with limiting and regulating defense access to government papers, the provision being that in any criminal prosecution brought by the United States, no statement or report in the possession of the United States which was made by a government witness or prospective government witness (other than the defendant) to an agent of the government shall be the subject of subpoena, discovery, or inspection until said witness has testified on direct examination in the trial of the case. 18 USC § 3500; Palermo v United States, 360 US 343, 3 L Ed 2d 1287, 79 S Ct 1217.
