insurance carrier
A familiar term in workmen's compensation cases, referring to the state fund, corporation, or association with which the employer has insured. Sheehan Co. v Shuler, 265 US 371, 373 (footnote), 68 L Ed 1061 (footnote), 44 S Ct 546. In the broad sense of the term, a company engaged in the business of insurance.
