For the purposes of a guaranty of right to a jury trial, this term means actions and proceedings peculiarly at law, involving predominantly rights and remedies peculiarly legal in character, as distinguished from suits in equity, divorce cases, probate proceedings, admiralty cases, trials by court-martial, special and summary proceedings, whether in regular or special courts, and minor cases in minor courts. 31 Am J Rev ed Jur § 21.
