For the purpose of a sales tax:–the proceeds of sales of personal property without deduction on account of cost of the property or any other expense whatsoever. Receipts from employees' purchases at wholesale cost, voluntarily allowed, constitute "gross receipts" derived from trades, businesses or commerce, taxable under a gross income tax law.
