In reference to a motor vehicle:–a vehicle operated to carry passengers or freight of other persons for a direct charge, not a vehicle used for the delivery of one's own property or products. 7 Am J2d Auto § 74. Transactions in which a company delivering goods to customers outside the city makes a direct charge to them for the cost of transportation are within the contemplation of a statute requiring the licensing or registration of motor vehicles for hire or compensation.
