A criminal offense, known in some jurisdictions as drunken driving, or driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or of drugs, the elements of which are the control of a motor vehicle by the accused while it is in movement under power within his control, and while the accused is intoxicated, in an intoxicated condition, under the influence of intoxicating liquor, intoxicated or in any degree under the influence of intoxicating liquor, the statutes varying in the terms which describe the condition of the driver contemplated by the legislature in determining the nature of the conduct to be proscribed. 7 Am J2d Auto §§ 253 et seq.
